The tweeters : our pick of health twitters

It's a truth universally acknowledged that any organisation with something to say, must in be want of a twitter.

Not just a fly-by-night make a profile and never post, but a genuinely intelligent and engaging platform to humanise themselves and inform followers of their intentions. Oh, and it helps if they've got a bit of a sense of humor about it.

Here are some examples of excellent health organisations and individuals  on twitter, worth a follow, a mention and a retweet or two.

1.  National Voices @NVTweeting is a coalition of English health and social care charities, providing a perspective on what patients think about healthcare provision and how it can be improved. Collecting content from around twitter, National Voices gives a great insight into patient and professional opinion.

2. Roy Lilley @roylilley Lilley is an independent health policy analyst, writer, broadcaster and commentator on health and social issues. His twitter feed is a mix of opinion, criticism and humor. His blogs are compulsory reading for those who have a vested interest in the future and present of the NHS.

3.BBC Health @bbchealth Clear, concise and to the point, the Beeb's automated health arm doesn't mess around, giving us the facts and in a timely manner.

4. The Royal College of General Practitioners @RCGP  the professional membership body for family doctors in the UK and overseas, the rcgp's feed is the definitive in innovation, discussion, news and the GP Blogosphere.  Sister site @rcgpfirst5 is also on hand to help newly qualified GPs navigate the first five years of practice, with links to helpful sources and education.
